American Civil War and the European Golden Age

“Some institutions exist, and pass away to be forgotten; others never die, but live eternally in the memory. They possess associations clinging around them, and entwined in every fibre of their existence, so closely allied to the interest of the community that time only serves to mellow the interest, and clothe them in everlasting importance. Of these, not the least in the minds of the citizens of Chicago is Camp Douglas.” I. N. Haynie, Adjutant General of the State of Illinois, 1865.

This is regarding Chicago's Civil War POW camp, Camp Douglas. 1865 is like yesterday relative to the history of the human race.

We have the American Civil War and the European Golden Age.

Lucky Cull has to run, much more on this soon...
