American Civil War Darkness Spanish Golden Age Light

Again, relatively recently, 1861, America goes to war with each other – blood, brutal death, heartache and misunderstanding. War is senseless in that you have no control over the outcome. Dark.

European Golden Age, 1500-ish, luxurious life, prospering literature, not to mention prospering architecture, art, music, theatre. Light.

Now we have two stark examples of an absolute metaphor.
